Air conditioner roof unit

Does any one cover the AC unit on the roof for winter? Is it needed?

If you are going to let it sit for long periods of time it may not be a bad idea as it will keep the elements off the cover and possible keep leaves and such from blocking the vents. I don't cover mine because we try to use it every few weeks or months, but I did cover my prior TT AC.

Well, it looks like you found someone who does, and most of us apparently don't. You are likely to find more folks that cover the entire RV. (Jamie, for one.)

I have never covered my campers. One reason is I run the generator once or twice a month and use the ac as the power draw.

Depends a lot on where you live and store your coach. If your coach is outside in a snowy climate then yes. When snow builds up on the roof it can create dams that will channel water in to your coach during periods of melting, covers can prevent a lot of that. Lots of falling leaves can clog the openings around your ac which means you’ll have to remove the cover in the spring to clean them out.

Since you live in Wisconsin I would say yes to covers.

I run both engines every week during the winter while the cover is still on. You just have to make sure that the exhaust pipe(s) are not under the cover. In my case they both poke out below the cover.

To provide a load on the genny I use a small electric space heater and sometimes in combination with a hair dryer or the convection microwave oven as running the A/C in really cold temps isn't that good for it.
