Fresh Water Tank Filling

I have a 2018 Chateau 31e bunkhouse model with the tankless water heater. Got up this morning to find water coming out of overflow vent. We are hooked up to city water. The fresh water tank only had about 1/4 tank of water in it, to begin with. When I checked this morning the tank was full. How can this happen? I shut off city water and started draining the tank through gravity valve. At half a tank I shut off the drain valve, turned on the water pump, and now the pump is making a horrific noise, any ideas about what is going on?

Your pump has an integrated one way valve that should prevent backflow from the city water supply to the tank. These have been known to get trash stuck in them allowing the water to backflow to the tank as you have experienced. Most times running the pump clears the obstruction but it sounds like you may have a bigger problem in the pump if it doesn't sound correct.

If you are modestly handy take pump apart and clean. Repair kits are available for most major brands. If noise clears and pump works right but fresh tank still fills you can put a shutoff valve between tank and pump - or replace pump. If you have Kantleak four way selector valve there could be a problem there also. Try rotating selector valve a couple turns CC and test. Still filling - try CW and test again. To isolate Kantleak and pump problems - remove pump inlet/suction hose - if water comes out with park water connected - pump check valve is bad.

Now if you could only find a model with a "self-fulling" fuel tank!

See the whole discussion on "electric RV" and "solar"

Electric won't work; the extension cords would be a nightmare!
