Furnace has burning smell.

2016 Thor Palazzo 36.1

Yesterday the furnace worked fine. Today when it comes on it has a burning smell and the smoke alarm beeps a couple of times but then stops. I have pulled the outside panel off an opened up the panels under the sink where the furnace is but see nothing out of the ordinary. Where else should I look?

Might have pulled some dust in. Unless it’s really scary you might just let it run a bit with your windows open and see if it clears up. Keep a close eye on it, of course!

Check the flame adjustment...it may be burning too rich (hot). Haven't worked on one of these for years but the furnace in the old truck camper had a flame adjustment and a movable sleeve that would adjust the gas/oxygen mixture. Road bumps may have caused them to get out of wack a bit.

If the outside furnace space looks fine then what about inside the coach? If you can get visual access to the furnace case/body inside the coach, check to make sure no wires or hoses have drooped enough to touch any hot surfaces of the furnace (I “assume” the metal furnace case may still get hot enough near the combustion chamber to melt plastics touching it). The smoke detectors going off would seem to indicate internal smoke products being generated from something.
