Axis 24.1 Cruise Control

First trip and we had the cruise control set for 55. Started down a hill, speed increased to about 65 and all of a sudden the engine downshifted. It has happened about 3 time in 2,500 miles. Is this normal?

Yes its a feature: its using engine braking to help maintain the speed.

My Wife's 2014 Escape will do the same thing when descending on cruise.

Its a relatively new feature in Ford's.

Also, if you are using tow/haul you can tap the break and the trans will downshift when going down hill. Tap the brake again for an additional downshift and added engine braking.
