Scheduled Repairs

Pictures of front molding pulling away from the side window trim and bubbles in the wallpaper. Probably due to leaks on both the passenger and driver's side. Scheduled for repair at CW in Nov. 2017 24.1 Vegas.

Yes that is indicative of window leaks. Although it doesn't look too bad. Hopefully it will get repaired before any really damage occurs.

water leaks on 2018 Vegas

Thank you all so much for these posts. We have learned so much and this post caught my eye today! We just dropped our Vegas off for its final warranty fixes on the 1st of November. purchased on 11-9-18 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to us!
Luckily my DW had noticed bubbles on the drivers side wall the prior weekend while we were camping and this was an item we have on our list of repairs, but did not realize that it could have been water penetration.

We will see what General RV plans on doing for this problem and follow up with the forums. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR THE HEADS UP!

Leaks

We have our 2016 Axis 24.1 at our local RV repair shop. Wallpaper about 5" below both driver and passenger windows was rippling. Moisture meter showed extreme moisture in that area.

They removed both widows and inspected but it appears it is where the front cap meets the main body on the sides is where the moisture was entering and traveling down the aluminum channels at the rear of the windows. The wood directly under the windows, a few inches down at least, was completely dry.

I'll post again when the job is done. $$$$ Extended warranty does not cover leaks.

Corner Plastic

The plastic pulling away does not appear to have anything to do with water leaks.... Just poor design and fit. If you find otherwise, I would like to know too.

I noticed the other day while I extended the awning. The front bottom cap was filled FULL with water and muck. Pulled off and there is a hole with wire cable going into rig. This area should be dry and drain. Re caulked and added Dicor bandaid over hole. I can see where this could be a possible water entry location as water level higher than hole. Not ruling out windows at all. BUT ANOTHER AREA TO CK.Click image for larger version

Rev,
You must have missed my post about the same thing a few months ago. I thought that was the magic answer but since the wallpaper problems were happening on both sides I didn't get too excited other than to fix the problem as you did. Just plain dumb what they did when they put these together with no thought whatsoever. I noticed a brand new one at the Pomona RV show and they put the hole for the awing electric at the top instead. No sealant whatsoever this time.... just an open hole.

I did miss it. Can't figure the reason for the block of Styrofoam keeping the water from draining? And by shear luck, wiring going into cab? WoW.

They must have used that canned foam filler to "seal" the 1 1/2" hole they drilled to run the wiring to the awning. They ignored the fact that the stuff usually "grows", so when they put the cap over the awning support it blocked off the bottom. The air conditioning run off runs down the awning support and right into that pocket. I found the issue by accident when we were camping.

Yes, the screws and overlap are covered with the plastic molding.

Well, I have both windows out right now. I will get back to you on what my RV service actually ends up doing. I did remind them to jettison the cheap screws used in the windows when they reinstall them but they were probably going to do that anyway. Should be done within the next few days.

Did you take any pics? I would love to see what those walls look like behind all the finish work.

What moisture meter are you using? I would like to check mine. If I used the same brand, I could use your numbers as a reference point?

I have a 2017 Axis and have noticed some bubbles in the wall paper under the drivers window. After reading this post, I have started to look for leaks. Is there a gasket between the glass and the fiberglass or is that butyl? Can I use sealant there?

Thanks for this post...

I can tell you that after having our windows removed and looking at the wood next to the openings, the main problem was not the window seal. The problem is where the front cap meets the side wall main body as RevJeff's picture shows. Water is seeping in and running down inside. I did take some pictures with the windows out. I was amazed to see that the wood next to the openings looked like brand new.
