Yes they do go bad. If the unit is 5 or more years old. It probably needs replacement. The batteries to the coach have a good charge?, if yes it probably just needs replaced. How old is the unit?

A 2020 shouldn't be bad. Probably not a propane leak either.
Outgassing from 12v batteries WILL set it off!

Low water, over charging, bad/corroded connections will/can cause outgassing
Carefully check the water, very carefully. An open flame or sparks will cause a BIG BOOM

Good luck and don't ignore the chirps

I had one in a previous rig that would chirp when the house batteries were weak.

Most spray cans are propane powered. Hair spray, brake clean, contact cleaner, spray paint, etc will set it off. My little butane torch will set it off even when I am using it under the dash.
