For other hobbies - I've used both Gell and AGM batteries for many years...
Gells do need a special charger - a normal auto charger (and I'd suspect many of our converters) will ruin them.
For AGM - they will be much more tolerant. I've used an Optima deep cycle for over 5 years and recently replaced with a pair of 'golf cart sized' AGM batteries. I like everything about them except the price
In that use they tend to get deep cycled more often than my RV batteries.

Haven't justified the extra expense for the RV.. still using the 'flooded' versions. I do dry camp at times - but not often or long enough to tax the batteries. I don't remove them for the winter - just make sure they are and stay charged (as Yosemitebob said - a charged battery won't freeze - at least in the 'lower 48'... Not sure at what point of the north one would need to be concerned with that.)

From reading through this thread it appears no one has identified the unknown D27DC-160 battery. This makes it tough to program my Trimetric. Size 27 batteries are usually 95 to 105 Ah; I doubt these unknowns are 160 Ah.

On the subject of the WFCO conveters they are junk. They can't make the manufactures specs for lead acid and I sure wouldn't hook it up to AGM or Gels.

For your information and technical knowledge, a 100 percent fully charged battery will not freeze until approximately minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit. That might be that Siberian City that only a few people live in, in Russia. A fully discharged battery can freeze at or around 32 degrees.

Back in 2014, when I purchased my Vegas 24.1, there were a number of posts involving the Harris batteries and the junk that they were. Some of the posts involved the 160 AH claim on the battery. If I remember correctly, Harris was queried on the 160 AH posted on their battery and they admitted that the Chinese manufacturer put an incorrect number on the battery. Apparently they never changed it. Before I threw the Harris batteries away, I always used 105 AH rather than the 160 on the battery. If you query Harris, I bet they will tell you the same thing.

Good Luck with Harris Batteries. My recommendation (based on my history with the Harris Batteries vs WFCO chargers) is to remove Harris Batteries and buy new batteries...it will save stomach lining, avoid multiple dead battery episodes (usually at the most inopportune time) and allow for less worry once you do so (no problems the past 8 months since I replaced my Harris Batteries).
