Bulb for acorn porch light

We purchased a used 2012 Class C 28Z motor home in Florida last Fall and have just driven it home to Rhode Island. So far we have burnt out 2 bulbs for the acorn shaped porch light. Not sure why they are so short lived. The bulb number that the motor home came with when we purchased it is #1073. Not sure if this is the correct bulb # that the unit was originally sold with. These don't seem to be an off the shelf item in our local auto parts store. While I know that I can order 1 of these on line, I'm wondering if I can't just replace the 1073 with a 1156 (or the LED version of the 1156) that seems to be a much more common number. BTW also lost the lense cover to this light - cheap and easy to replace (already done). Has anyone come up with a better way to secure this cover? It snaps in, but seems quite weak. Thanks in advance. Dave

When the acorn cover on our blew off on a trip, I ordered an 1156 LED amber and clear cover which I put a dab of RTV on each tab to assist with keeping it in place and it worked perfect.

Thanks HaRVey.
I'll try the RTV
Just to clarify.........you are using an amber light bulb with a clear lens cover?

Yes, using an amber bulb because I felt the white was too bright and attracted bugs.
