Angry Catalytic converter lock

Storage lot we keep our 2016 Thor Axis has had numerous thefts of catalytic converters from the motorhomes stored there...we are nervous about returning ours for storage this winter.Anyone have advice or recommendations for a locking device. THANK YOU.

only way to prevent is fashioning disconnects so you can take it home. In the 60's a gent near me couldn't lock his car so he made a set up with connector to battery, several condensers an hi a ground mat near his car that he clamped to body. First night there was a large yell and a stunned guy laying in road. Cops made him take car to dealer to get locks working.I would look at race car header flanges that could be welded on to allow it to be unbolted. I don't know if it would pass insp in your state. The contents inside modern converters have a metal woth more tha gold in some countries. (I heard it is used in making nukes) but I can't vouch for that (NCIS NEW ORLEANS episode)

Alarm System. Then you can worry about false alarms.

It happens in ohio also just recently somebody used a cordless sawzall and stole the converters off all the used cars on the lot,and the owner has a apartment in his office and didnt even know it till the next day when they started the cars.

If it were mine I would get an engraver and engrave my name and phone # on it with a message call if being sold or something like that, we used to do that when I was a younger and worked in a video store,we engraved all the vcr under the cover to call if being repaired, we got alot of them back that were stolen.

Happens in Texas also. A dealer in Austin had the converters stolen off of a bunch or new GMC pick ups last year. I wouldn't worry about it, if it happens, oh well.

I like the engraver idea.

Locks and locking devices only work with honest thieves.
If they really want it, they're going to take it !!

I hate to say this...
Why not just find a storage facility that takes better care of the RVs that they are entrusted with?

Cat Converter

A few years ago we helped a friend move across country and she rented a very large UHaul truck that was on a F650 chassis. I did see that obviously this company was having the same problem because they actually had a full protective cage welded around the cat. Might not stop someone with a really good metal saw but would definitely make them think about going on to another victim. Engraving, etc., is not going to stop them in my opinion.

It wasnt meant to stop anyone from stealing anything, but engraving some info might assure the persons stealing them gets caught, In Ohio anyway you have to have a photo ID.
And most likely it would be covered under Insurance anyway.

The location where I store my mh has a camera system 24hrs as well as staff during the day 7 days a week. Hopefully it deters that activity.

In our area lately they have stolen pickups off well lit lots with several cameras and as of yet haven't caught the thieves. The word is they go straight to Mexico or to a chop shop

We have neighborhood cameras plus local cameras, and a neighborhood watch system after having several mail and package thefts and this is a subdivision with only one road in and out and not walkable very easily

Maybe we really do need to be tougher on crime, all this stuff we pay for ultimately in several ways

They caught a gal mail thief in Springfield and due to not getting enough people to press charges they let her go. They wanted five people to testify and press charges and only got two me being one of them.

Truly sad times when this is something you have to watch out for on a daily basis. It should be the exception not the rule

Why is it that one wasn't enough? Theft is theft regardless of the amount.

Put in the appropriate outdoor power supply, and you'll never find a safer place for it...

Wish I could store my mh in my driveway but my HOA won't allow it so I have to store off site. It would save me $140.00 per month.

Why not petition them for a variance?
(It couldn't hurt to ask... )
