Manual Scissor Jacks

Anybody have any input on the pros and cons of installing these .... They attach to the rig and can be operated with a cordless drill..... Seems like a good alternative to expensive troublesome installed systems..... Thanks!

I had these on my last two travel trailers and they work great for what they are: stabilizers, not levelers.

I added scissor jacks to the front and back of our Axis.

Unfortunately where we put the front ones are too far forward on the frame and push up on the entire front--so we don't use the front ones (they are in front of the corrugated part that the bumper mounts to so any force on them pushes the bumper up).

The ones on the rear, however, work great:



I had the rears mounted at an angle to each other to provide a little extra side to side stability. The angle also provided the benefit of poking the end of the jack out between the hitch to make them easily accessible.

I never had any trouble either, but more stability is always better

I'm planning on the route JamieGeek went; don't like the camper rocking in gusts above 25 mph. This winter we had them at Valley of the Fires in the 50 mph range.

I used the Bal Deluxe Scissor jack (Amazon link). They are good for 7500 lbs per jack. Picked them up at the local Camping World, however that Amazon link is a pretty good price too.

Yes, use a cordless drill. The speed handle takes too much energy and time.

Question about using a cordless drill for scissor jacks: I bought the jacks and adjusted them by hand yesterday as I didn't have a cordless drill handy. I was able to lift the back okay but the front was very difficult to lift. I assume because of the engine weight.

If I attempted to use a cordless drill on the front would it require a lot of strength to keep the hand held drill from spinning? I've been hurt before with handheld drills when they catch on something and the torque causes the drill to spin suddenly.

Oh yeah, if you're going to use the scissor jacks, you have to get on your knees and since you don't want to blow your knees, go to Lowes or Home Depot...etc. and buy a couple of knee pads too. You will need them.

Hi, I just purchased and installed Husky brand scissor jacks in the rear of my 2015 Chateau 28A. When the kids were rolling around in their beds at night, the whole camper was rocking. With the jacks down it really helps minimize that movement.

I picked them up on Amazon for a good price and they seem to be well made. I bolted them to the frame using the self tapping lag bolts that came with the jacks.

Any experience or concerns about using the bolts and not welding them to the frame? I added a couple of stainless washers to give the bolts some extra holding area. I was a little concerned about using the lag bolts and not using actual bolts with nuts, but it was not easy screwing them in. I needed to use a breaker bar to get enough force. I was hoping that due to the force needed to screw them in, it will really hold well.

I never considered scissor jacks a good source for "lifting". I think they are more for stabilizing. With TT's you can lower the tongue a bit, drop the scissor jacks in the rear, then raise tongue back up a bit for rear stability. Not sure how you would do this on a MH without a bottle jack or something similar.

The scissor jacks I picked up said they were good for 7500 lbs for each jack (with 4 of them I'm good for 30,000 lbs). If I had the arm strength I should easily be able to lift the coach off the ground LOL.
