Roof Access

I did a search on roof ladder and read through some of the results and it would appear the preferred method of getting on the roof is to use an auxiliary ladder vs the coach mounted ladder. I like the use of pool noodled sliced and attached to a extension ladder or a collapsible ladder to protect the finish etc. I know there will be a time to get on the roof for installs and maintenance, and not looking at the RV mounted ladder as a regular means for roof access.

I did see mention of ladders being attached to the RV ladders during traveling. Do any of you do this and what is your method of securing?

Thanks
JJ

If you decide to carry a telescoping ladder, and attach it to the OEM ladder: mount it upside down, and padlock it in place...

20 yrs. Always used the coach ladder. The less items you carry the better?

I've got to agree with that.

I guess I will see about the RV ladder for access.

Less is more.

Thanks

I don't believe our coach ladder would hold up under the weight of an average adult human being. I know it won't hold up under my weight. I use a ten foot ladder and put a jack under the bottom of the ladder so I can step on the upper two rungs to get on the roof. I weight 240 pounds.

Bob, I don't think your unit even has a ladder? Do they offer as an option?

Our Vegas 25.2 has a rear slide, thus no ladder. My previous Class A didn't have an attached ladder either. I use a collapsible 12.5 foot ladder, that is easy to store in the pass through in the front.
You'll save a ton on the web versus going to that big rv store with initials C and W.

I always use the onboard ladder. Works fine for me at 210 lbs.

Thanks for the responses. Knowing that trying to minimize tromping around on the roof is important.

My plan is to use a extension ladder or similar at home base for installs and maintenance. Use the RV ladder on the road when it is needed to address a situation on the roof.

Thanks
JJ

I use an aluminum bi-fold ladder. Tey are available at Lowes.
Sure it takes up a lot of space to store. However when it was needed to brush snow off slider awning, dry sliders before retracting in rains it was great to have

I use the attached ladder for most roof top chores. I'm pretty sure a fellow traveler would lend me the use of a ladder if I really needed one at a campground.

No: it doesn't.
But I agree with the assessment that it's better to carry as little extra stuff as possible.
I use a telescoping ladder with a pool noodle across the top rungs...
ut I don't carry it with me.
