City Water

We have a Thor Four Winds 24HL. Bought it new about a year and a half ago. Every once in a while, probably one out of ten, When I hook up the city water it won't work and I have to use the pump and fresh water tank.

I suspect that there is a check valve that might be sticking, but wanted to ask before I start taking things apart if anyone else has had this experience. Is there is a procedure that I should be following?

Not sure how yours is set up. But on mine there is a check ball right at the water inlet. Mine is more designed to keep the water from leaving the inlet when using water from my tank.

There is a check valve at the hose connection (much like rynosback describes) to keep water pressure inside the coach when not using city water (if you take out the screen you can see the end of the check valve--even press on it when the system isn't pressurized).

Does your Four Winds have a "water bay" with a valve/switch that you have to change when on city water vs internal? (Most of the Thor motorhomes don't have this: just hookup and it works but you never know.)

Do you fill the hose before connecting up? (Running the water through the hose before connecting to the city water connection eliminates all the spitting and air in the system. In addition, it helps purge the hose of anything before connected to the system.)

There isn't any sort of switchover device. I'm sure it's designed to work by just hooking up water since that's what it does most of the time.

I'll try filling the hose. Thanks for that suggestion.

City water and water pump

I have a 2022 Thor Quantum class C camper. When I hook up the city water it won't work and I have to use the pump and fresh water tank.
The city water was working fine but in the last 2 outings, I have had to turn on the water pump to get any water at all. I shouldn't have to turn on the pump when I am connected to the city water. Suggestions??

Did you switch the water valve to city and not tank?

What has changed/happened since it worked right?
Was it winterized? And now a valve is out of place?

Have mud daubers clogged the integrated check valve in the city water connection?

It could be that one of the "o" rings in the KantLeak valve has gotten out of place. I replaced mine because it was not switching to tank fill. When I did that I discovered you should turn the valve one direction only. I only go clockwise. Turning it back and forth can easily slide one of the "o" rings out of place and block the water flow.

If you should decide to replace it you'll find it's easy to do.

OP has a Class C MH. No selection valve.

My RV does not have a switch to change from City to potable. I have had the RV since October 2021 and it's only been the last 2 times I have used it that I have had the issue of having to run the water pump while using City water.

Replaced input/check valve with a new one and it was worse. So I took the check valve out of the old input and tried it again. Success!

So, my solution is to put a screw cap on the input to prevent the water from flowing out when using the pump. Just remove cap to hook up city water. It's not as elegant as the original design but it'll always work regardless of water pressure.
