Cleaning drinking water tank

We have s Damon Intruder 349 from 2001, and “0” knowledge of it ( at this point),

I am going to run a bleach solution thru the drinking water system of the Damon to make sure it is “clean”.

I found the low point drain, but is there any other valve I need to turn on (except the interior sink etc. valves to allow the pipe to drain ) as well?

Also, right above the low point drains, there is what looks like to be a standard sink style hot cold water faucet, but it is installed sort of oddly. How was that used? Is it used along with the valves marked low point? I have added a pic.

Another way to look at it, is, we never use that water for drinking or cooking. I carry water in the fresh tank, so we can flush toilets, and have water at the sinks as necessary. If we are not connected to city water, we use bottled water for drinking etc. When connected to city water, we use it, like at home, for drinking etc. I'm not suggesting you should not clean and sterilize your fresh tank, that's always a good idea.

A lot of us have a small faucet like yours near the water controls, but ours has a flexible hand wand so that you can wash your muddy shoes off or something like that. The salesmen call it an "outdoor shower" woo hoo!

I had heard that term, but as you say, it seems odd calling a faucet an “outdoor shower”!

We bleach tank on a regular basis and do drink and make ice from it.


The outdoor shower works great when coming back from the beach to rinse sand off. Also once used it when dump station hose had missing 0-ring and poo water squirted everywhere including on me. Wife said strip and rinse or you can not come back in RV......Glad it was there.

After a really expensive lesson on leaving the campground water supply on , We fill the tank (and use a filter)and then unhook & store the hose.
Only use water from the fresh tank (including cooking/drinking) via the 12v water pump.

Sanitize the tank every 6 months or so, using bleach & a few tablespoons of baking soda.

That faucet you have is for washing hands and such, it is not a low point drain.

What happen to your RV when campground water was turned on?

The previous owner may have replaced the faucet with one that doesn't have the wand. It didn't appear to be accessible for use in the picture. Where's the water gonna go? That's why they usually have a wand/sprayer attachment.

That low point drain is to drain your lines. Normally you have a valve on your fresh water tank or at least very near to drain it. Would be a much larger pipe then the ones in your photo.

Went for a long afternoon walk to a bazaar, while we were gone there was an extreme water pressure surge(estimated to have been 145# to 150# psi)
Had water flowing out everywhere from the RV.

Gutted our pressure regulator,split the water line (PEX) joints at the faucets,shower,toilet & water heater.
RV was declared a total loss...
NEVER AGAIN !!!

Wow, that was an adventure. Never heard of that before but anything can and will happen. Hope your insurance paid for the RV.
