Cleaning under side of awnings

Hello all, I need a good cleaning product to clean the underside of my awnings on the Challenger 37kt awnings. Any advice?

Thanks

KC

I've had good success with Simple Green on my awning, and a lot of other cleaning chores on my RV. I tried a lot of other products on the awning, but Simple Green is the best so far.

I used Kaboom Mold & Mildew Cleaner with bleach. The underside of my awning is white. The Kaboom removed all the mold & mildew that accrued when the RV was stored over the winter. Awning looks like new.

Use Simple green with a little bleach. Apply to awning and roll up for 15-20 minutes. Unroll and rinse. Brush any remaining stains. Works well. Rinse any solution from sidewalls right away.

Anything with bleach in it is really hard on the stitching.

I agree! I used to use bleach products thinking that would kill the mold from growing but it's really harsh. I had used Simple Green for years on all kinds of RV cleanup chores but couldn't believe how well it does on the white inner fabric of the awning. Try it - undiluted from the bottle.

Carefree says to use warm water, soap and a brush.

Doubtful that "Carefree of Colorado" has had to clean the mold off the white underside of one of their awnings after a year in Florida humidity!

On the Dometic awning on my prior coach they recommended 1/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water. Spray the underside of the awning with the mixture (I used a pump up garden sprayer). Retract the awning and let it sit for approx 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, extend the awning and rinse with a garden hose.

This might sound like I'm asking a dumb question...
What does it have on it: that it needs cleaning?
(That might make a difference in the cleaning product that you should use...)

When I roll mine up here in the northeast we have moths, mosquitos and of course crap that falls form trees. Roll it up and it’s nasty next time you unroll it. No worries. Magic eraser and a stepladder and it’s like new. Prepare to get wet as you rinse it tho. But really it looks like new.

I put on swim trunks, get up on a ladder with a garden hose and a Magic Eraser. No soaps, bleach of anything other than water. The dirt, stains and mildew come right off with pretty much a single pass of the eraser. Takes about 30 minutes to clean the underside of a 16' awning.

Must be a Navy thing.

That may be true, but I'm a big fan of following directions. Specially on things that cost a lot of money.

Instructions for cleaning RV awnings:
Prepare a mixture of 1/4 cup of dish soap and 1/4 cup of bleach to 5 gallons of water.
Procedures are different for Vinyl and woven fabric awnings.

Swim trunks.... huh, who knew? And I thought boondockers and skivies were all the rave. Maybe that’s why my neighbors pull their shades when I clean the awning.
🤣

Clorox Cleanup , scrub brush on a stick and a step ladder. Wear an old t shirt when doing this... don't ask.
