Clicking Relay
When parked at a site, I hear an occasional click from a relay at the drivers side dash. It has to be quiet and I have to be close to the dash to hear it. Does anyone know what this sound is? The key is totally off so whatever the relay is, it must be related to the shore power system somehow? My wife asks me what every noise is and I hate it when the answer is I don't know.

What is going on when it happens?
Shore power just added...or removed?
Engine just started...or shut down?

It's probably the "BIRD"
it's a relay on a timed circuit, that ties together the house and chassis battery systems so that the converter charges the chassis battery when plugged into shore power and the engine charges the house battery when driving.
There is a time delay....mine is supposed to be two minutes I believe, but it seems faster that that... so that if the house batteries are low it gives the alternator a chance to level out before that big load is added.
I din't know if you have the same system as me, but here's the manual for my time delay control, that describes it better

So it is a clicking BIRD relay then? Interesting reading. Thank you.

that's just my guess based on what was written.
actually the BIRD doesn't click. The continuous duty relay it controls makes the noise....

You're right it is the Trombetta which is on a time delay but the house batteries also have to fall below 13.8 v before it will open to separate the two battery banks.

I had that same intermittent clicking. My house battery had deteriorated to about 8 volts. Replaced it and problem went away.
