Coach Batteries

Hi Guys,

Have an issue and was wondering if any of you might have an answer for it.
When I park the RV for any length of time not plugged in to shore power (store) the house batteries go dead in about five days. Can't start generator to recharge because not enough power to crank it. I have checked every possible power drain I can think of. Coach shut off switch, Chassis battery disconnect. Put a knife switch on the tire minder so as to shut it off. Pulled fuse from auto start for the generator to shut on light off. every light, appliance, vent, engine heater switch and even the lights on the slide controls. Battery still drains down. I have to start the generator every five days to keep enough power to be able to start it again without jumping it. Can't find the power drain! any ideas. This is my fifth coach and never had this issue with any others. Thanks

A bad cell in one of the batteries will cause this problem. You will have to load test the batteries to find the bad cell. Once a flooded battery's voltage goes a 9.5 volts the battery life is severely shortened and its recharge capability decreases forever.

How old are the batteries?

Might be a bad battery or cell. Might think about replacing all of them (Cant mix old with new batteries so replace all now with same battery).

I like AGM's personally but they do cost more $$.

You have a nice DP coach so you might have FOUR 6volts in your system?

Thanks, I should have thought of that. Hope it's that easy!

You could check the amount of current draw on the batteries under the condition in which they discharge quickly. A good multimeter will work if connected properly.

hidden draw

Back in the day I had an add on cruise control unit on my truck/camper and had problems with the batteries. Turned everything off( wasn't much back then) still had a 1.5 volt draw.It turned out to be the cruise control had a transistor that needed power, put an inline switch pin and fixed the problem. I don't know if these newer cruise controls require the voltage, but another place to look.

Our coach has a battery draw even in the "Store" position. I put in a battery disconnect switch to solve the problem.
