Dangerous situation on new 2017 Axis

Just wanted to warn fellow Axis/Vegas owners of the serious issue I discovered after purchasing my 2017 Axis 25.3. It seems Thor used a wiring harness to include a second chassis battery to my Axis. The problem is that the leads are hot and were sparsely covered with yellow masking tape! This could cause a short at the least and a fire at the worst! (& I discovered mine after driving cross country after purchasing). I fixed by wrapping all exposed contacts in electrical tape. I hope this saves someone from problems.

Thanks for sharing that!!! You may have saved someone a huge world of trouble! I would report this to the dealer and to Thor, this is a major safety hazard!!!

Good suggestion. That second battery option seems to be pretty popular. This is the first time I've seen this come up about a single battery.

You might consider adding a second battery. If you wait much longer, it is advisable to replace batteries together, so you might have to buy two. Try to match the capacity of the OEM one.

Hope your dealer told you about the Store/Use button. Leaving it on Use for extended time without charging will drain that house battery.

I'm confused. Where would they install a 2nd chassis battery?

The thing that I find odd here is: Why even have the option for a 2nd chassis battery? Its just used to start the engine, run the lights, etc.

The one you want multiple batteries for is the house. Were the wires connected to anything? I think I would try to find out where they go and simply remove them (especially if the went nowhere).

You're right Jamie and there is no place to put one in that engine compartment. Looks to me like someone wired something to the engine battery for some reason and did not disconnect the wires.

My bad. My screen didn't open the pics, and I assumed you meant the coach battery and not the chassis battery. One chassis battery is enough, and there is barely room for one!

I would bet that this was done by the person that delivered your coach to the dealer. Perhaps they ran wires to a car they towed. Anyway, the dealer should have caught that in the prep process.
