Rusty Oil Fill Tube

I have a new to me 2014 for about 6 months in Florida. Apparently I have not run it for long enough periods to clear the condensation. We have been on the road since April. Anyone tackled the Oil fill tube. Ford has it at $80 for the part. It looks like a short metal tube and then a firm hose to the engine. If it’s Truely separate thinking I can remove the metal piece and clean it. There are 2 metal hose clamps one on each end. Any thoughts before I dive in!? Thanks.

Rust

Thank goodness for oil filters! I think you should replace it immediately, and spend the $80; inexpensive compared to the damage potential. Visible rust can have much smaller particulate feature size and probably can get through the oil filter. This will definitely shorten the engine life. Make sure the filler cap is not leaking moist air back into the oil reservoir, condensing every night as the dew point operates.

Are you sure that's not the radiator?? I've never seen anything like that before in an oil fill tube. What does the oil look like when drained? If the tube looks like that, what does the oil pan look like???? If I'd of seen that before I bought it I'd of had to pass.

I agree. I think you are probably correct that it is probably the radiator fill line because the oil tube in generally well oiled due to oil changes coating those inner surfaces!

That would scare me too! Even if it was the radiator. My oil fill is plastic...

That looks like something thats been sitting at the bottom of a lake somewhere. If thats the fill tube it is not normal. Imagine what the rest of that engine would look like. It does look like oil and water sludge. How many miles are on this unit?

Rust

The top rim of the "pipe" also looks very much like the typical radiator cap rim, wide and flat.

Was it an oil tube or radiator?

Thanks Step Out! How does your oil look? I would think seriously of doing an oil and filter change in case any of that crap dislodged and got in your pan.

Stepout; Yikes! With the oil tube looking like that, I have to believe there would be condensation/foamy oil residual in the engine as well. And, it probably started well before the OP bought the MH used. For my peace of mind, I would run a engine flush through it to get any sludge/condensation/foamy oil cleaned out. I've used this Amsoil flush before and it does a nice job on the internals of an engine. From then on get that engine up to full operating temp when you run it. And, use a synthetic oil. The synthetic doesn't have to be a super expensive either. Mobil 1, Castrol edge, Pennzoil, you get the idea.

I've seen oil look like that on a couple other vehicles, one had blown head gasket, the other a cracked head.
If that was indeed the oil tube, sell it fast!!
