Water pump behaving badly...

So my water pump has taken up a strange habit. After any faucet is turned off the pump will run for less than one second repeating every 12 - 20 seconds. Used to happen only occasionally now it’s pretty much all of the time. Sometimes it stops after 4 or 5 “burps”, sometimes it goes on (and on, and on!). Sometimes turning the pump off and back on with the switch will stop the process. it’s very annoying and can’t be doing the pump any good either. I don’t think the system pressure is bleeding off enough to trigger the pump and certainly it doesn’t run long enough each time to generate much pressure.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks much.

Perhaps one of its valves aren't sealing and its letting water go back into the tank; might be time for a new pump in that case.

Is a valve open letting water onto the ground (low point drain or something)?

I had that problem on my last coach. The culprit was the city water connection.

If the above recommendations check good then check the fittings on the inlet side of pump for tightness. Check the strainer for debris. A clogging strainer can induce pump cavitation.

I second the pump strainer. Remove, clean and reinstall hand tight.
