Fresh Water Filter

I got around to winterizing my Thor axis 24.1 today. Just before adding the winterizing fluid, I checked the filter and found it clogged with tiny pieces of plastic that obviously wound up there during construction or installation. I guess this could account for the low water pressure since purchasing 3 months ago. Just a heads up to new owners that if you have low water pressure out of faucets to check the filter. Mine was located under the bed in the rear down by the shut off valves. Click image for larger version

There is just no excuse for some things. Some people don't care and take no pride in their work. Poor management doesn't help.

Again, this is something the dealer should have done pre-delivery, but it seems many don't. Those plastic bits are from drilling the necessary holes in the fresh water tank, and anyone with a new coach should locate and clean out that water filter. It will be near the water pump on most models. The factory doesn't put any water in coaches, so those bits won't move to that filter until you pump water from the tank.

Water pumps normally also have a strainer. Should check it also for particles.

Someone had posted a few weeks ago about finding chips in their Vegas filter. Then on a 3500 mile trip, I disconnected from City water, turned on the pump and had no water. Because of that post I went right to the filter, removed it and cleaned the chips out. Saved me so much headache!

So if you have a vegas, go clean out the chips that are there!

Assuming I have the same water filter in my 2018 31W, does the lower housing unscrew? I want to check mine for water after blowing out my lines (and for crud).

Thanks,
Pete

Mine is close to pump. Top (clear or white looking cap) unscrews. Was on real tight. Make sure other valves are closed. Will leak a little water anyway. Has a metal screen in it.

At least the filter did it's job; that crap could have ended-up in your coffee.

You could also remove the aerators from the faucets--bet you find stuff behind them too.

Your filter housing should be a shurflo where the lower housing unscrews. You could disconnect the input and output lines then join them for winterizing. Normally you get a filter wrench to unscrew the bottom housing.

Axis Water

Our 2016 24.1 was completely full too when I was installing the air accumulator tank. Drained it down, refilled and had more in the strainer. You have to know your systems in these rigs or you will be very frustrated. Can you imagine if fuel tanks were done this way in cars? Probably were back in the 70's.

Confused: shurflo? Exactly where would this be in my 2017 Axis 24.1 ?

You confused me too. Shurflo is the make of the water filter housing. Now the location of the filter on your Axis you will have to tell me. On my Four Winds 31Y it is under the bed with the water pump, and fresh water tank.

If your Axis has a filter like that one it would be under the passenger side rear bed. I doubt that your Axis has such a beast, however. Most Axis/Vegas units have a simple strainer connected to the pump.

Yeah. I didn't notice any filter canister like picture posted. I just have the "strainer thing". Thanks

I ran water through the system and then cleaned out the strainer. The remnants in the strainer are from the shavings from the PVC and other pipe. Stands to reason that THOR probably does and air test and not a water test on their units and the dealer does not charge the lines prior to selling the unit. If you haven't cleaned out the strainer, you should do so the next time you use it.

My 29h outlaw was mounted on the back wall under the kitchen sink. Could only reach it with one arm. Decided to eliminate it and made a bypass manifold out of pec tubing. When I had it on the workbench saw the input and output was reversed and it had NO cartridge The cartridge and wench were in the cabinet and the CW employee said Thor supplied a extra one.
Eliminating it makes winterizing a lot easier because I do camp I cold weather.
I now use a inline filter on the city water. Works fine.
