onan generator air filter

We are trying to change the air filter on our onan gen ( model # 4KYFA2610DP)

We got the cover & wing nut off. Getting the filter out is proving to be a problem. It's like there isn't enough room to get it past the screw in order to remove the filter from the compartment.

If you have change yours, did you have a problem getting it out? Did you have to force it out?
Is there a secret to this? Thanks for any help.
