Generator

I have a 2012 Freedom Elite. I had CW do a maintenance inspection and they said the generator would start. They said they found a rat's nest in the generator and that they could not tell if the wiring was the problem. Of course they wanted me to pay them to either determine the problem or to repair it. I had purchased the extended warranty but they said it did not cover repair from damage by rats? I asked what the warranty would cover and they said I would have to refer back to the warranty, which I have misplaced. They were not very helpful in giving me the info on the warranty. Has anyone else run into this problem with the extended warranty?
Thanks,
Ron

It's a well known fact that CW sucks. Good luck with your problem.

If the generator starts what's the problem?

One who did you buy your rv from, you Should be able to get the misplaced information from them or at least a phone number to call your warranty company which can send you a copy of your policy.
Like Tfryman said if it starts and runs what's the problem.
If you have cut or exposed wire go to the hardware store buy some butt splices and a crimp tool a little electrical tape or shrink tube and fix it yourself.
No more problems.

Safe travels

Happened to me while MH was in storage. They found a small exposed wire bit in two, daily easy to fix. I however spent hours racking out pecans and pecan shells.
I think the generator is excluded from the average extended CW warranty. Cummins Onan gives you a 2 year or 2000 hour warranty. But rat damage may not be covered. I vote to go to Cummins anyway. Call and explain, get an appointment, probably same day conclusion to your problem. Ditto about CW.

Extended warranties are a waste of money. There is always a loop hole so something isn't covered. Many times you have to return to the place you got the extended warranty to get work done, even then they may come up with an excuse why something isn't covered.

I'm not sure what warranty company you all have. I purchased UNITED STATES WARRANTY CORP.
they have repaired everything that has broken no problem.
Cab AC
Awnings
Slide out
Masarator pump
And other items

Great coverage

I maybe shooting in the wind with this but I will ask anyway.
1st: does it turn over/crank when you push the button inside your RV
2nd: if it doesn't crank go outside and see if you can attempt a start from the start button on the generator it self. You may have to remove the front cover hiding the start button.

It does crank from inside the RV, but will not start. CW said they found a rat's nest inside the generator and that maybe they gnawed on the wiring? When I get a chance I will look inside (where the generator is) to see if I can locate any gnawed through wiring. Hopefully I will and can repair the wiring?

Warranties will not cover rat damage. It's the same as hail damage or hitting a low bridge.
