Step broken!

Had the step break a day prior to our 2 week trip to NY - NJ - MD!

The bolt that holds the steps secure and secures the gear mechanism snapped in half. not sure if this is the recall but what timing. I jerry rigged the steps by drilling two holes and placing a hitch pin in them to secure them open and closed for transit.

Argggggg!

Thor had a recall for Lippert steps. Recall# RC000111. I don't know if you have Lippert steps but it sounds like you might, Here is the Lippert recall notice, you can see if you have the steps involved, and contact Thor.

Yep - that is exactly what it is! funny - reading the description they state it is from misuse! How does opening and closing a door and walking on steps for less than two years constitute abuse!?

A trip to the dealer ins in my future when I return home.

Thanks!

It is the recall! What timing - 1 day prior to our 2 week trip. Oh well. Hopefully the dealer will be able to repair in less than 1 month!

I contacted Thor and they will NOT let me fix it myself due to it being a NHTSA recall nice !!!!!

This is the fix I did in the meantime waiting for thor to get my local dealer the parts for the recall fix. Funny thing, they are so much more steady with his fix - only a pain to have them not automatically retract and extend when getting in / out while on the road.

This is the quote from the Lippert official recall page "Bolt may fracture from stress on the bolt caused by misuse of the steps, overloading, collision or other outside influences" (like walking up and down in a normal humanly fashion.)
