Generator starts but will not continue to run.

My ACE 27.1 generator stopped running. No AGS on mine. You can crank it, but as soon as you release the button it will die. If you hold the button it will continue to run. I have not seen any codes. It quit suddenly after several days of usage with no problems. I don't think it's heat related because after plenty of time to cool the behavior is the same. Plenty of gas and oil.

I just read somewhere of another ACE having a similar problem but they had an additional symptom that the priming pump ran continuously. You may want to unplug the remote start panel and see if it works normally with the local start button.

Could be fuel pump: Onan did have a run of bad pumps. To check: Disconnect the fuel line and run a prime cycle: Fuel should run out of the hose.

It will continue run at normal rpm if I hold the button down. Wouldn't that mean the fuel pump is ok?

Does it start and run, or is that just the starter turning it over?

It will achieve normal running rpm by repressing and holding the button. I haven't held it long enough to begin power switchover but it is at full speed, not starter speed.

Have you tried starting it with the start switch on the generator?

Yes, works the same as inside.

I had this problem with a previous Challenger. The batteries needed to be replaced. Check your batteries.

Makes no sense.

The batteries are fine, bought them this season. It cranks and will achive proper rpm but will stop as soon as I let go of the button.
