Primary Fuel Filter

I am trying to change my primary fuel filter. I have a 2013 Thor Palazzo. The current filter has a housing like a large oil filter and a see thru plastic portion on the bottom with a drain valve and an electrical connection. Anyone ever done this? Does the bottom portion come off and is reused? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The lower portion sounds like a water separator. That would most likely be reused. The drain valve is to drain the water if you ever had an issue. It's nice to have that visual separator to know you have good fuel.

If you put your RV and chassis/engine in your signature you may get more specific responses. Some filters change the whole canister, others have a cartridge..

AND...some Cummins engines warn against filling the filter with fuel (common practice) prior to re-installing. Also, there is a specific process to pressurize the fuel system before you try to start it. Lastly...there's a lot of chatter about an "o-ring" that's commonly left off if you're not familiar with where it is. Your engine make model would help with any advice. Lots of videos on YouTube that can help you as well...as long as you know what engine you have.

when mine was changed recently at SPEEDCO, I watched as they performed the service, as they allow you to almost be a 'part' of the equation, nice. The whole fuel filter was unplugged and removed. The water cover was removed, the filter replaced, and the whole container was filled with diesel fuel BEFORE it was closed, and then reinstalled.

I imagine that the 'electrical' that you refer to is the sensor that monitors water in the fuel, providing some type of 'alert' if too much accumulates.
