How to Change Oil on Generator - Cummins OnanRV QG 5500

Hi All!

I searched the forums for "generator oil change" and didn't get any how to threads.

I've been dry camping for 10 days and when I get home I want to change the oil in my generator. I could really use a step by step article or video.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Bill

Thanks guys! I added some tags and used good key words to make this thread easy to find for folks. I also found a really good video on Youtube for the Onan 5500 which comes with most of the larger Thor coaches.

Hey Trainman! I love the way you embedded the youtube video. I tried pasting the link as well as the embed code and neither worked.

How did you do it?

Bill

Hello, maybe you already to get help but I still like to share the generator oil change time to you.

If your generator is a new genset, you should change oil when the unit runs 60 hours. After that, change the oil every 200 to 300 running hours.

In general, Perkins generator oil change is 500 hours.

If you want to know about Cummins generator, the following article will be helpful.

Cummins Oil Oil Change Intervals

If you want to inquire other brands of generator, you need to inquire your supplier or technical person.

There's no oil filter? That's strange. Also, I wouldn't put thread sealer on the plug, might get some inside the pan.
