Vegas/Ford E450 Steering
Was thinking about adding a Safety-Plus to my Vegas but noticed that there appears to be a steering stabilizer already there. Or is this something else?

Its basically a shock absorber but doesn't have the return to center feature that the Safety-Plus has.

Looks like a steering damper, not a stabilizer with return to center springs.

Vegas/Ford E450 Steering
I just replaced that stock damper with a Roadmaster RSSC. Easy install and basically does what the Safe-T Plus does.
It’s an easy DIY install and less expensive. It has a 2-year warranty vs the lifetime warranty Safe-T Plus has.
I think the Roadmaster is fine for a Class C E-450 while the Safe-T Plus may be better for the Class A’s.

two different things
the dampener is just a dampener.
devices like safe t plus are centering devices, intended mainly to hold the line in case of asymmetrical blowouts or the like. They try to force the steering gear back to front and center

The Saftey Plus and Road master self center themselves. They provide about 500# of force in each direction (and zero straight ahead).
I love mine... it straigtens out the wheel on its own once you make your turn in like a parking lot or city streets.... Reminds me of a front wheel drive car that you turned on to a road and accelerated at the same time and the wheel spins quickly until its going straight ahead.

+ Caster, the organic steering stabilizer.
POPULAR MECHANICS MAY 1973:
START QUOTE:
If too little caster exists, the car will wander and weave,
thus necessitating constant corrections in steering.
END QUOTE:
Some E350/E450 have handling issues, some do not, the following may explain the difference:
Ford ships all E350/E450 cut aways with identical fixed, non adjustable
caster/camber collars, "one size fits all". You can recognize these collars because they are keyed and cannot be rotated. They are marked "F8UA-AA 0+.25" on the passenger side and "E97A-CA +0-0" on the drivers side.
The RV builder almost never changes the Ford collars, as a result:
If the final RV build is nose down one degree then the runtime caster will be about +3.5 degrees. These units can have a real wandering problem.
If the final RV build is nose level then the runtime caster will be about +4.5 degrees. These units are probably indifferent.
If the final RV build is nose up one degree then the runtime caster will be about +5.5 degrees. These units are probably just fine, possibly excepting the 31+ footers.
So, some RVs have a problem with wandering at highway speeds and some do not have a problem. JMO.

Harvey, What you said may all be true but the one of the main function is when you have a blowout on the front axle you can maintian control of the RV.
Plus as I mention before it has a self centering effect - more so than any adjustment can provide without a mechanical push. Its real nice on windy days, your not see-sawing wheel to keep straight (correcting then over correcting). Must easier to hold steady since you have resistants.
