lp gas monitor

My 2016 Outlaw has a monitor panel that shows usage for tanks. I went to fill the LP tank today because the monitor said I only had 1/2 tank. The tank didn't take 1/2 gallon, and the gauge near the tank shows between 3/4 and full. Got home and turned the valve back on, went in and pressed the button for the LP tank, and it still says I have only 1/2 tank. Any thoughts on this?

My ACE reads empty with the 4 light gauge when full. Started looking into it but it hasn't risen high enough on the "to do" list yet.

I learned a long time ago to never trust those gauges

The propane tanks have a float inside with a magnet on the float arm. The gauge on the end of the tanks is magnetically connected to the interior float. If your tank gauge is correct and the light display is not then you can replace the external tank gauge without draining the tank. If the float and arm is bad then the tank must be drained to replace the float system.

It doesn't sound like too much of a major "pain in the buttocks" to fix; if it rises to a high enough level of dissatisfaction!
In the meantime: it gives your even more reasons to book outside!

My panel gauge also over gives a false reading of the propane level. Better to use the tank gauge.

Why would he want to replace the tank gauge when it is accurate? It's his inside monitor that's reading inaccurately

The inside display sender is the tank gauge. If any of the lights on the inside panel light, the problem is the tank gauge even though it indicates correctly.
