Strange electrical woe

On my 35SK, I have seen what I recently noticed is a possibly developing problem. I have some AC outlets that are not working when just running my 1800 watt inverter on my Lifepo4s. However, under generator power, they ALL work. There are no GFIs popped. Is this a normal Thor syndrome? Anyway or place to research this more? I have checked what I consider obvious, battery connections etc.

Thanks

Yes they only connect up a limited number of outlets to the inverter.

(Usually small appliances: TV, outlets at the front for a laptop, etc.)

TY
Interesting how on my sailboat, all of the GFIs work when on batteries and inverter, and there are six of them. Hmmmm

Cheers

It is likely normal and wired that way from the factory.

On my Outlaw 29H here is how my Inverter circuit is wired....

- Wire from 15A Circuit Breaker is run to refrigerator receptacle
- Wire is then run from the refrigerator to the AC input of the Inverter
- Another wire is then run from the AC output of the Inverter to the three TV receptacles
- There are no GFCI's on the Inverter circuit

When on shore power or the generator the refrigerator and the TV's are powered. When there is no shore power or generator and the Inverter is turned on, only the TV's receptacles are powered.

Think about it for a second. Your inverter is rated for 1800 watts which figures out to about 15 amps. Your generator is probably 4000 watts (or maybe 5500 watts), which calculates out to 33 amps at 120VAC (about 45 amps for a 5.5kw genset). Many users would not pay attention to the limitation and as a result, they would be constantly trippjng breakers until the inverter went belly up! So the manufacturer has tried to help avoid such things by limiting what can be connected (within reason). Also the heavier load would discharge the batteries much quicker.

Thanks for the replies gents. And I agree about the load on the inverter when on batts. I just would have picked different outlets to power rather than the ones Thor did. I think I can solve that with a bit of thinking.

I have a 3000 watt inverter on sailboat and 400 amps of Lithium so I dont really think that much about running a blender and the micro at the same time.

Thanks
