My fireplace is so real!

So it's a cool Sunday afternoon and NFL is about to come on. We are at home however watch football in the camper. The reception is really good (air not cable). Anyway being cool I turned on the fireplace and got the standard fake flames. Then I push the "heat" button. BAM...REAL Flames start pouring out of the small heating unit on the top of the fireplace. Yes rolling out over the desk pullout and the top of the cabinet. For a second my mind was trying to grasp just what was happening. I turned it off as fast as I could. The front of all the wood turned black. I did not try to clean it. It's at the dealership now. DRV got right on it and will replace anything damaged and are replacing the fireplace. If this had waited one minute later to start burning I'm sure the whole thing could have gone up in flames.:fire

For one of those electric fireplaces to do that is a serious issue. I would demand a full investigation and written report as to why it failed in such a catastrophic way. A full electric fireplace should never had done that. I'd go so far as to report it to UL, you should get the UL registration code, and the consumer protection agency.

Thanks for posting this in this section of the forum. The Dimplex fireplace is the one that is installed in the Challenger as well and could be used in other RVs or models with the electric fireplace. Not sure which Dimplex model you have but mine is the DF2500L.

Did you go for an inspection before you got the fireplace installed? May be due to excess power being drawn has lead to a short circuit. Usual at a short circuit your circuit breaker should have cut the power to the fireplace. I had plans to install my electric fireplace straight away. But my electric fireplace installer advised me to do an electric inspection and had I not have done it sure I would have ended up writing a post over here.
