Time for the ACE's pre-winter oil change. Last year I took it to a Ford medium duty truck dealer that's about 30 miles away. Ford said a dealer much closer worked on Class A's, but of course the dealer said no they don't - they were listed on Ford's motorhome maintenance site too.
So.... I can do that. I didn't really want to make the trip back to the truck center. 60 mile round trip plus the lady that works the service desk needs training on customer relations.
A few notes for next time. I've done many car oil changes, but this one was a bit different.
1a - Lose weight - its a really tight squeeze under the rig. I did the Safety Plus and front CHF last year, but the coach was on my driveway which has a slope and then a flat spot near the house so there was a lot more front clearance Or...
1b - Next year lift the coach on the levelers and use my jack stands
Which one gets used is up to some debate. DW expects 1b
2 - Get the type of filter wrench of the type that fits on the end of the filter and then uses a 3/8" ratchet. I have an older wrench that wraps around the filter. Clearance is tight to use this type (see 1a). It eventually worked, but wasn't a lot of fun.
3 - Pay attention to filter. I had a lot of trouble getting a new filter on until I discovered that the gasket from the old filter hadn't come off and was preventing the threads from engaging. Then there was the dropped filter into the gravel and an extra trip to parts store as I wasn't going to chance having contaminated the filter.
4 - Buy one quart bottles and not the big 5 quart containers. The clearance between the oil fill and the bottom of the dash didn't allow me to use the measuring funnel/tubing thing I bought for generator oil changes. However I did have clearance once I removed the tube. It did work petty well as the measuring section has a valve on the bottom so I could put a quart in and then position it and open the valve. It took awhile for each load to run out the funnel. Quart bottles and a small funnel would have worked a lot better

5. With a late fall oil change, make sure that a fine Colorado Stout is available for the recovery.
