Oil Change

I just finished changing oil for the first time on my 2017 ACE 29.3. Its not hard to say I made one heck of a mess. That's a topic for another day. I put the Fumoto value in to make next time so much cleaner (I hope) and easier.

My question: What do you use to put the new oil into the filler tube? I used a small funnel and one quart at a time. There has to be a way, so I can use the 5quart as is instead to transferring to a quart bottle.

Several people have used a pump but i decided to just use the 1 quart bottles. I taped a 1"x6" type water hose to a wide mouth funnel. The hose holds the funnel in place while i pour in the oil. Im not in a hurry so the little extra time to fill doesnt bother me.

And yes the first oil change is messy.

Same here - I refill a one quart container from my five quart bottle. I've got to admit that it is a bit of a hassle putting new oil in, but you should like that new Fumoto valve next time around.

One tip for minimizing mess is to use a large styrofoam cup (like from a big gulp fountain drink) when unscrewing the oil filter. Not only will it contain the mess it'll keep you from burning your hand!

I slightly loosen the filter, and then put a one gallon ziploc bag around it while I finish loosening it. The filter and any drips fall down into the bag, and I then seal the whole mess up.

I have a 4 foot piece of heater hose with a funnel jammed one end. Place the end into the filler tube and the funnel end under the windshield wiper to hold it. Pour oil using any size container you want.

I use one of these screwed to a quart bottle, I have three of them with hoses cut at various lengths. I also use a 32 oz styrofoam cup to unscrew the filter, it grips the filter, catches the oil, and no burned fingers!

I agree for 80.00 it's not worth the aggravation or time and not to mention getting rid of the oil.

Thank you all, will have to work on the funnel and hose thing. Great ideas on keeping filter mess at a minium, will try on the next change.
