Our generator Onam 4000 keeps turning off however it will start right back. We are leaving out today. Going to clean filters this morning. Oil is good. Any suggestions?
When it shuts off does the light on the start/stop switch blink? If it is blinking look in the owners manual: It will blink a code that shows you why it stopped.
pjciii is correct and it is mistake I have seen many times. If your gas tank has less than 1/4 the generator will not run. The gas system is designed so that the generator can't run your tank dry and leave you stranded. If you have more than 1/4 tank (not an exact measurement) look to see if you are getting a code, they are listed in the manual, and go from there.
Three blinks indicates a service fault. Press Stop once to cause the
two-digit, second-level fault code to blink. (Pressing Stop again will stop the
blinking.)The two-digit code consists of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 blinks, a brief pause,
and then 1 to 9 blinks. The first set of blinks represents the tens digit and the
second set of blinks the units digit of the fault code number. For example,
Fault Code No. 36 appears as:
blink-blink-blink—pause—blink-blink-blink-blink-blink-blink— long pause—
repeat
If it's the fuel filter the gen will starve itself for fuel because of blockage creating a low delivery volume and partial suction. After the gen is off for a couple of min the pressure equalizes and the engine will restart. Replacing your fuel filter should have you going in no time. Like the air filter, the fuel filter should be replaced at regular intervals. If you have an hour meter check to see how many you have and compare against the manual, you may be due for air filter also.
Glad you got it figured out!
Mine has a problem where it shuts down because of a "under-speed" whenever the load shuts off. For example, if I am running the air conditioner and the compressor and fan shut off, the load drops to zero, the generator under-speeds and shuts off. I keep another AC load going just to keep the generator loaded enough to not shut off.
