Onan 4000 flywheel blocked

Could the starter gear be lodged into flywheel?

It had a little give. I was able to feel (of course you can't get to generator do to its location) the starter gear sticking out to block the flywheel . I pushed it back and the flywheel is now spinning.. The generator only clicks so I'm assuming it's a broken starter gear. Your thoughts?

Could be just a lose or corroborated wire.
I recently had a similar situation with a friend of mines rv.
He also has an Onan 4000 generator. His needed a new starter the windings on the stater caught on the armature and bound it up (it made a similar sound)
We bought a new starter through DBelectrical (on line less than $40)
Because of the location of his starter his got a lot of road water and sand right on the starter.
I'd check the connections first.

If you can get to the positive lug on the starter, take a jumper cable and put 12 volts directly to it to see if it works. Could be the solenoid not making good contact.

I can feel the starter gear still engaged in the flywheel I can move it and flywheel spins. But won't crank. Can you Check starter gear without dropping generator
