Onan 4ky runs 10-15secs, shuts down Code 14

Purchased used Chateau 2012 gently used but sat for 4 years.
Only 54 hours on gen (Spec J-M)

Onan 4ky fa26100L runs for 10 to 15 seconds then shuts down.
Gives me a Code 14
Fuel filter - new
Fuel pump - works fine
Spark plug - new
Removed sediment bowl, cleaned
Flushed and soaked with SeaFoam for days
Checked for bad grounds, all seems fine

Any help appreciated

You may still have carb issues if it sat for 4 years with ethanol gas in it. Either replace the carb or remove it; disassemble completely, clean in an ultrasonic sink with carb cleaner, then rebuild it.

How much fuel is in the Rv gas tank? The genset will not run if the tank is much below a half tank.

RV gas tank is full...bypassed it to use fresh gas/sea foam solution from separate container.

Getting to the point of considering a new carb. Any info on aftermarket carbs?
Onan vs other carb manufacturers?

Had to ask. My brother has had mh’s for years and forgot about gas level when his wouldn’t start.
As has been stated already if the carb has sat with today’s crappy ethanol gas for 4 years I wouldn’t even mess with a rebuild kit I would get a new carb. I work at a hardware and do the repair work. I can’t tell you how many lawnmowers I have replaced carbs on from one winter of leaving the fuel in the carb bowl.

New carb only way to go with that old fuel. Modern fuels go stale real quickly. But a 14 error code is for an engine overfrequency fault. This could be a failing fuel pump or the engine governor. I'd take it to a Cummins dealer for service. Do you have a manual?

...I would simply continue to crank it and let it run for as long as it will, even if it takes multiple tries, it may soon get 'past' the issue and run fine from then on...

don't put any load on it to start with, until you know it's continuing to run under 'idle' for a long while, then add the roof air conditioner to let it 'rev up' and help clean out the system.... let it run for an hour or more.

If you went this route you will probably have to manually choke it to get it to run for any length of time. The main jets are probably clogged so it leans out and falls on it's face, unable to maintain 3600 RPM.

We have a manual but need something more in depth.
Going to purchase a carb today. Then deal with the code 14.

Thanks!

Hey, I hate to admit it but I was bedeviled by good old code 14 for almost 2 seasons. Diligently tried all of the above fixes to no avail. The carb cleaner by- pass and hand choking did seem to make it run better on the few occasions that it did run!! So, I just gave up Then, one day I just decided to try it again but it wouldn't prime, not a peep out of the fuel pump, checked the electrics and beat the snot out of the fuel pump; no joy. Then the light came on, I ordered the cheapest suitable fuel pump on Amazon.ca, installed it and lo and behold no more code 14's. For a while it did quit after the coffee pot or other load dropped off, but it would restart and run OK. The following day using a Y fitting and a hose pincher I fed it a mix of gas and throttle body cleaner into the float bowl intermittently for an hour or so; problem completely resolved! Simply cleaning the float bowl will not remove gum and varnish from the labyrinth of passages inside the carb body, neither will spraying stuff through the venturi! Hope This helps. W.

A new carb seems to have done the trick.

Put the new carb in last week. Starts every time. It’s running smoothly. Barely have to prime it.
Now, switching out ceiling vent for a Maxxair deluxe. Fingers crossed.

This is a great forum. Thanks for all the input.
