Onan generator

On my 2016 Miramar I have an Onan Gererator. I read that when the voltage drops below a certain number, in my case its 11 volts, the generator is supposed to kick on. I experimented with this yesterday and only heard a beeping noise coming from the control panel. The generator did not start up and the voltage read 11 volts, the switch was on the enable mode. Anything I am doing wrong? thank you

Did you have your inverter turned on and the AGS (Automatic Generator Start) enabled?

First off have you looked at the magnum control box for the auto-gen start?
You need to make sure that those settings are correct. Make sure the volt/temp settings are where you want them.

Second, on that same control box, make sure the timer is set correctly, both for when it can come on and for how long.

If your unit did not come with instructions, you can Internet search Magnum ME AGS. I was able to find the instructions which were very helpful!

The Challenger, Miramar and some other models come with an Inverter and AGS as standard equipment installed by Thor.

You can purchase an AGS system from any number of vendors to include Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Magnum-Energy.../dp/B009M7A8OU

Although Magnum recommends professional installation, installing as a DIY would depend on the individuals abilities. From looking at the installation instructions, it appears the hardest part would be determining the location to mount the components and chasing the wires.

Here is the OM for the Magnum AGS-S which includes installation instructions.

My Hurricane came equipped with the AGS as well. The controller is located in the back of one of the storage compartments on the driver's side behind the battery compartment. The on/off switch is located just inside the door with most of the other switches.

Hugh,

In most cases the inverter and AGS are separate systems that are not dependent on one another. You can have an AGS without an inverter.

With Thor, the inverter and AGS are included on coaches that have a residential refrigerator. Since our refrigerators do not run on LP, this allows us to run the fridge without being connected to shore power or have to run the generator constantly. There may be some models that do not have a residential fridge but have a small inverter for the purpose of powering the television(s).

11.5 Should be good. The Xantrex inverter, if installed, will sound an alarm at 11.0 and then shutoff at 10.5. 11.5 will start the generator before the low voltage alarm sounds.
