Onan QG 4000 Generator

So I havent used my RV in a couple of weeks and went out to start the generator and nothing happened. No start whatsoever. Can anyone help me determine what is wrong?

Did it crank over or nothing? If it cranked did you prime it first? (Prime by holding the start/stop switch down on Stop for about 20 seconds--the light will come on and you should hear the fuel pump.)

Didn't start, didn't turn over, or didn't do anything? If nothing happened it sounds like a dead battery, otherwise need more info.

It didnt crank or do anything. When I tried to do it from the generator itself it didnt crank at all.

Yeah that sounds like a dead house battery. Is the camper plugged in? Is the use/store switch on store?

Does the ACE have the jumpstart switch? If so start the V-10 and hold down the jump switch and try the genny (while holding down the jump switch).

On our Axis there is a switch on the dash labelled something like "emergency start" or something...sigh don't remember the exact text on it. When held down it shorts the house battery together with the chassis battery allowing the house battery to start the V-10 or the chassis battery to start the generator.

I know some Thor motorcoaches don't have it, however (as people have indicated that was not present on their coach on the forum here).

Update: Ah here is a pic:

To the right of the lit generator switch is "Emer Start".

I had the air conditioner on in my Axis a few weeks ago and my wife started the microwave. With both running the circuit breaker on the generator itself blew. I think it was located on the lower right of the generator itself. You might check the manual and find where it is. Just a thought,

Phil

If your batteries are ok, then it might be the breaker near the battery bank. I was hooking up my solar system and unknowingly tripper the breaker. Generator would not start until I push the little yellow lever back down.

Generator will turn over but will not fire to start.
Steps that I have taken to fix the problem

check fuel line - clean
Changed spark plug. working
Clean carburetor. Working
Gas tank full
oil level on the dot
wires are connected and working
used starter fluid to try to help start nothing.
turns over no fire

The ACE has one. I think it is labeled bypass. If I recall correctly, it is on the dash left of the steering wheel.

Sounds like a stuck float valve, try gently tapping with a rubber mallet, that might free it up. Generators are sometimes sensitive to poor grades of gasoline. Go to TopTier.com and look at the available brands. I keep a list of dealers in my glovebox when traveling and don't buy anything but Top Tier brands.

Continuing on with the thread....

Took a quick look at the Onan RV QG 4000 generator today to see about changing the oil and replacing the oil and air filter. Air filter is readily apparent. But the oil drain is inside the housing and didn't see a filter.

Search of online manuals was inconclusive. This doesn't seem like something that has to be done at the dealer. Any one do this at home?

(edit) Did a you tube search

Change the oil all the time at home. Just make sure you keep receipts and document when changed if warranty issues comes up

When you document the oil change you do yourself be sure to record the time on the generator time meter. Oil change requirements are based on generator elapsed time not calendar intervals.

No Oil Filter on Onan RV QG 4000

Thanks Ed and Wayne.

You can see on edit that I had found some videos on YouTube, one that states there is no filter on the Onan RV QG 4000 generator.

Onans generator manual is pretty generic, covers too many of them. Can anyone confirm the lack of filter on the Vegas 24.1 generator?

My model number is 4KYFA26100P. There is no oil filter listed for the KY generator.

I don't think any of the 4000 watt Onans have a filter.
