Onan 4000 generator troubleshooting

I have a 2018 Chateau 31E, and my Onan 4000 generator will not start. It cranks but will not start.

Fuel tank is full, batteries are charged, I tried starting with the RV engine running, and connected to shore power. Generator oil level is full, and I tried replacing the spark plug. I cleaned and re-connected the ground connections, and I even tried connecting a ground wire from the generator engine to the RV chassis. When I prime the generator I hear the fuel pump running, and I smell gas, so it seems to be getting fuel.

An RV dealer did some troubleshooting and said it wasn't getting spark, but they were unable to fix it.

I measure good voltage at the input of the coil, and the output of the coil has voltage when cranking. This output is the wire to the spark plug, so it makes no sense to me that there isn't spark.

Any suggestions on what troubleshooting steps to do next?

Take it to a Cummings dealer?

Air - Check
Fuel - Check
Spark - Check

If you have all those and it doesn't run there is a bigger problem

Compression?
Timing?

Should be under warranty.

Yeah, I have an appointment with a Cummins dealer. The problem is that the earliest appointment is 2 days before we go on a 3-week cross-country trip. They will have to diagnose the problem, get authorization, and order parts, so it's not likely to be fixed before we leave. I was just trying to figure out if there is something else I could try.

I think you'll find Cummins is not like your RV dealer when it comes warranty remedies: They are the manufacturer so there's no third party to go through. You should roll out of there that same day with it fixed.

I don't blame you for trying to cover all the bases yourself; same thing I would do. But there comes a time to let the experts have a crack at it.

Even if you had to pay up front with a chance of not getting your money back...don't miss the vacation. We can make more money...don't cancel future planned memories!! If all else fails, get a small Champion 3100 portable generator with 30A plug.
