Bill,

For my money the alignment...even the possibility of a Safe-T-Plus stabilizer (available in Georgia at the Manufacturing plant for right at $500 with free install and adjustment).

I agree: Alignment first. Should get an alignment within the first 200 miles or so.

Absolutely alignment.. I destroyed two tires on my first RV in my first 6000 miles because I did not do it. It also makes it easier and safer to drive. Depending on where you are planning to camp, a good surge protector is also high on my list. It also can save you lots of time any money. Tire Minders are third on my list.

First was alignment then a surge protector/EMS I figure third will be a rear track bar. The SP/EMS is the Progressive that also protects against low voltage damage. Jim.

Gentlemen,
I see many people recommending the rear track bar; what does that do? Is it needed on the smaller Vegas 24.1 or just the larger units?

I have been more than pleased with the Safe-T-Plus so if there is any other possible improvement in control and stability it might help get my copilot (the DW) behind the wheel.

A trac bar controls axle shift tendencies. In the case of the E series chassis only the rear needs a trac bar. Axle shift or tail wag characteristics are amplified when towing. Adding one made a huge difference in driving my Axis. I've stopped dreaming about other handling fixes. Note: I also got an alignment with increased castor (new adjustment sleeves).

A while back a friend asked me what he should do to reduce how much his RV swayed. He said he got it aligned but it was scary to drive in the wind and required constant correction. I drove his rig and felt tail wag, not sway. Anyway, he put a trac bar on as a first fix based on my then recent experience with installing one for similar handling characteristics. The other day we talked and he thanked me for saving him from the long list of handling fixes recommended by CW. Though... he still referred to it as fixing sway ... LoL ... oh well.

My previous motorhomes came with Trac Bars and so did my jeeps. So, I was surprised that my new RV didn't have one.

I ordered the SuperSteer SS402. Install was a little more than a simple bolt into place but not bad ... some pictures here: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/sho...42&postcount=6
