If your batteries aren't toast than run them till they die. The two 6 volt batteries in series as opposed to a 12 volt deep cycle discussion is as old as the first rv that had a 12 volt system. 6 volt batteries have bigger cells that allow for a longer discharge than a conventional 12 volt dep cycle. The 6 volt system really shines when dry camping for extended periods. They run longer and can be drained down farther than the 12 volt batts. As we don't spend long periods off grid the two 12 volt batteries in my coach are sufficient for our needs. When we do boondock we run the jenny for a bit during the day to top off our batts. Keep those batteries watered and you should get a couple more years use out of them before having to change out.
