Riding the fence on this purchase

Hello everyone, We are new to Thor Motorhomes, and could use some input on purchasing a beautiful 2012 Thor Ace 29.1 with 12,000 miles on it, for $49,900.00. It has one small slide in the living room behind the driver. The dealership has good reviews and a very good reputation. The dealership tells us that the RV will not leave the lot until everything is tested and in working order. There is also an option to buy a warranty. The motorhome is beautiful. Normally, the dealership sells, higher end motorhomes, but took this one in as a trade. My issue is, the negative reviews, regrets and online youtube videos regarding Thor. It scares us. We have a small 2005 BT Cruiser that were using now, and it's been no trouble, because there is so little to it. But its old, and too small and has to go. Any wisdom from Thor owners would be appreciated. We don't want to make a mistake buy passing it up, or buy purchasing it either. Thank you so very much.

No one can give you a meaningful answer as to buying any MH. What I can tell you is if I had it to do all over again I would buy mine again inspite of a few issues. It is a good fit for our needs. Sounds to me like a fare deal. If possible contact previous owner.

It always seems like such a gamble...
But the rewards always end up out-weighing the risks!

Being a used MH it should have any/most all bugs worked out of it. Ask about the roof, maybe it has been done. Go on top and look at the roof seams/joints. It seems Thor (maybe others) like to skimp on the caulking. We just had ALL caulking re-done on our 2016 Quantum, roof & sides. We love our coach and bought it used.

My 2˘...
I would never buy a used vehicle (auto or RV) without having a qualified mechanic survey the vehicle. Spending a couple hundred now can save you a lot more later on.

There has just GOT to be someone out there providing motorhome inspection services...
For how complicated these critters are, and what they cost: it'd be worth paying someone to inspect both the Coach and Chassis systems, and give a "thumbs-up", or a "No-Go"! on the purchase...

Cannot speak to the deal you're looking at but to the question about Thor - absolutely. We've put 41,500 miles on our Challenger in 36 months - love it. Problems - yep. Solutions - yep. Thor has been great to work with and our coach $ for $ - SUPER!!

I wouldn't worry about what you read on the internet, if you search enough you'll find bad stuff on just about everything (especially RV's--in fact you'll find bad stuff on every RV manufacturer).

Sounds like you found a really good dealer, might be worth it just to deal with them.

I'm also in agreement with everyone else here: All my dealings with Thor have been pleasant and whatever issues I contacted them about were resolved to my satisfaction.

Yeah, I agree. Might be good to make sure the mechanic knows about the particular RV brand and how they work. We've had three different brands and they all have different ways of doing things. Might also I-phone everything when you check it out. Oh yeah, prolly got to buy all that extra gear to make your camping easier too. Long list.

When we purchased our unit used, we googled MH/RV inspectors and came up with 2-3 in the S.C. area. Even though the coach only had 1400 miles on it, we knew it was the thing to do. We ended up going with a private RV shop just 5 miles from the owners home. It was $150 for the inspection.

Have you given any thought at purchasing an extended warranty?

Hello everyone, thank you so much for you wisdom and input. We can't thank you enough. Unfortunately, we've decided to keep looking for another Motorhome, and we'e going to let this one pass right now. We may regret it, it is beautiful. Thank you so much for your help
