Moving rv

We have a 1979. 21ft class c that we need to move from the building to the field. It was caught in a flood, battery was/is dead. We only need to move it in a straight line about 200 feet. Can we just pull it with the tractor and be done or do we have to remove the drive shaft. Like I mentioned, it's just a straight line out of the building.

200 feet? If you can get it in neutral the tractor pull should be just fine.
Was it totaled in the flood?

16ACE27, thanks. Yes I would say a total loss. It didn't completely cover the engine but there was water about 18 inches inside. Fridge and stove not affected. Couch/bed got soaked, furnace under water. Water pump under water. I need it out of the building so the dirt can dry out. If it's in the field, it will bother me enough to figure what to do. Probably call junk yard.

We purchased a 2017 Four Winds and that was on high dry ground. And no comprehensive insurance.

Wow, sorry to hear about that. In 2004 we lost a 23' 2 year old travel trailer and a 2 week old Nissan pickup truck in a "thousand year" flood on our property. Both were insured but we had to fight with the lizard to get reasonable reimbursements for our losses.

strip it of salable parts (A/C, micro, stove,TV's fridge, etc) then call the scrap man.

16ACE27 dang sorry to hear about your loss. We had the 100 year flood. Water rose over night to where we could not get to our stuff. I will never look at rain the same again.

Cavite, not sure that I am able to remove those items by ourselves, not very mechanical. But I would sell them cheap to someone who would want them. I haven't advertised anything yet or started to look for someone to do it for us. Thanks for the comments. I wish I could do it.

Bob, we have not moved it yet. Our plan was to use our pickup and the field is still to wet. I'm afraid we would get stuck with the truck. Waiting in a few days with no rain and we will get to it. I wonder if RV Road Help would come and move it. Of course with this social distancing perhaps not. The old rv ain't going no place.

Good choice to wait!
There's no reason to rush things into another problem.
Good luck: when moving day arrives!

Thanks. It will be an adventure even if it is only 200 feet. Lol

with a long-enough tow strap, and an impressive head start: anything is possible...

You may want to try to sell it as many salvage yards will charge you to accept RV's or trailers

Iron prices are low and there isn't much that is really worth a lot

(Just a thought...)
Can you break it up, and bury it?
(I don't know what attachments you have for your tractor...)

The trick will be getting it in neutral. If so it will pull. If you decide to disconnect the drive shaft be careful and make sure it is supported while working. Those suckers are heavy and can hurt you if they drop down.

Shifting to Neutral

Typically next to or near the shift lever there is a little plastic plug. Remove the plug and inside there will be a slot or something similar that will disconnect the interlock so you can shift the transmission to neutral. This is how good towing companies get vehicles to move. The idiots just hook up and pull and break things.
