RV Cover
Hi All,
I haven't seen a thread on this. If you know of one, please direct me to it.
What do you recommend as a good RV cover? With so much sales pitch and materials, it is easy to be overwhelmed.
I've seen these references: ADCO, CAMCO, Classic Accessories, Cover Craft and Evelle.
Do any of these ring any bells?
I live in Pittsburgh, so there will be snow this year. What materials should I be looking for?
Thanks,
N

Been talked about several times... and always mixed replies... To cover or not to cover.
Some like them. Some feel they do more damage (scratches going on/off or blowing in the wind). I don't use one... didn't up north and haven't down south. More from convenience of using rig... If I had to wrestle with a cover just to take it out for a weekend, I might use it less.
(and when up north - our travels included a winter escape... Easily could be below freezing when we were leaving - and wrestling a FROZEN cover was even less appealing...)
Can't comment on the brands as I've never used one - but I'm sure others will chime in.

After my research I decided not to cover my motor home. Several reasons, the three most persuasive being: no matter how tightly you wrap it up the material will flap in the wind and damage the exterior finish, it won't take long for holes to wear through on sharp points allowing water to enter - which is then trapped and promotes growth of mold and mildew and finally they are very difficult to put on and take off - especially if there is a breeze. Instead, I'm going to keep my machine waxed with a UV protective product and change the parking orientation once in a while to ward off sun damage. We'll see how it fares.

How do you keep your coach looking good? I had my 2015 Hurricane in storage last year while being treated for cancer. Now it is oxidized like it is 15 years old. I had a 20 year old Coleman popup and a 7 year old Hi-lo and they both looked far better than the Thor product when I sold them.

To cover; or not to cover:
The Missus and I were in the middle of buying one at a Camper's Barn...
One of the workers there saw us, and quietly mentioned that it was probably not in our best interest to cover our rig.
I don't know if he was just being helpful, or perhaps trying to drum up some future repair business...
He DID say to cover the tires: so we picked them up instead!

I have a 2015 Windsport 27K looks brand new wash it twice a month as that is how often I travel, have it professionally waxed twice a year and I do spot waxing in between. I did have a problem with oxidation on the top of the front and rear cap and I believe that was due to the company I had hired once didn't wax up there, out of sight out of mind. I did have an exterior finish warranty and they came out and got it back to new.

Great thanks guys
Wow, I wasn't expecting this... I ask for a good cover and it looks like "air" is the best...
I would really want to hear someone in favor of installing a cover, just to balance things. But the way this is going, I'm starting to think that the best is a good cleaning and waxing.
Go figure... the best results do come with the most work.
Thanks again guys and keep your comment coming.

If you do decide to cover your RV, should you crack inside windows for ventilation while covered?

I'd never leave a window cracked: too much potential for mayhem, if you leave the "curious criminals" with an opening...

If its covered they won't know the windows are open.
We cover and leave everything closed up. I guess it depends on where you are and how cold it gets. Here in MI it gets pretty cold and thus really dry (cold air can't hold as much moisture as warm air).

I think it depends on the construction of the unit. If you have decals, I would definitely cover it. They will be the first to go and make it look bad quickly. Full body paint maybe not.

I don’t cover mine but I do use UV protection on it - especially on the decals. We’ll see!

We covered our Fourwinds, but don't cover the Axis. We are in and out during Michigan winters. in our experience; If you get some snow and it thaws, even a little, add a little more snow and it becomes very difficult to get the cover off. If you plan on covering in November and not using till mid March, then I would cover it.

Yeah the one year we used it in December I didn't cover it until after that trip.
This year in Feb when I had to uncover it to take it to factory service the cover had 2" - 3" of snow on it. Was a bear to remove.
This season it will remain covered until March.

Geez, wish I could do that. We live in a subdivision ... no pole barns.

We're lucky enough to keep it in front of the house all summer and hide it away in the barn all winter. The bad side to that is mice. I can't seem to keep them at bay. But I try my best with Decon blocks! I do keep the windows open all the time if possible to keep the air moving inside. Tire covers are on my wish list. We are still sucking wind from the first two payments.

Very nice cover. I like that.
This is the cover we decide on for our ACE.
Plenty of room for the slide to be out, main entry door and outside kitchen door to be open and connected to shore power.
We placed it between our home and the barn.
