The brackets break sometimes when the rubber bumpers in the center of the arms end up on the outside of the roll when fully retracted. When the patio awning is putout - the arm will remain on the outside of the awning until the coach side link is fully extended then bumper will snap under the awning roll and release the outer arm. This will allow the outer arm to rapidly take up the slack in the awning overloading the arm.
My rear roller bracket broke when the awning impacted a stop sign. It was then I found the awning is disabled when the ignition is on. In my defense, it was raining when I packed up the coach.
