Slide cover icy

Help. Trying to leave a campground in Mo. Temp is 20. Slide cover has snow and ice and wont roll correctly when retracting slide. Any ideas?

The slide cover isn't that large on a 24.1. I'd get up there with a broom and brush off the snow, and, perhaps, bring a hair dryer up there to melt the ice (either by getting on the roof or using a ladder, but be careful on the roof as its likely to be snowy and ice'y as well).

I've red stories of those that camp lots in the snow and ice...they say leave the slides in, if possible...for this exact reason. They will extend them during day for comfort but bring them in at night or when the downfall gets thick.

I hadn't thought about this kind of issue. Post your solution so the rest of us southern campers can learn from your experience.

Best winter camping ad ice ever. Keeping the slides in also greatly reduces the heating load. Some rigs need to extend the slide to use the bed so it’s not an option for everyone but it’s a fine idea for some.

Our problem was the slide cover wasn't rolling in like it should. We got as much snow and ice off as we could with a broom then retracted and extended it a couple times to roll as much as we could. It still wasn't rolled completely but we took off anyway, drove a few miles in sunshine, stopped, extended and retracted it again and all the leftover snow and ice fell off. I figure the vibration of a few miles on the road loosened it. Probably not the best solution but thankfully it worked. All I got to say, cant wait to get back to Florida and no more trips north in November cause you never know what weather you'll have!

We can access everything with slides in. Makes rest areas nice and short stops for lunch comfortable. And, it sure will help keep things warmer in freezing weather!!

Yes. We dont put slide out if we stay at a Walmart or at rest areas but had been at this particular campground for 5 days and never thought about it when it started snowing. Lesson learned!
