Windshield Chipped Repair Results

All,

I just had a chip repaired. I can still see it and feel it. I contacted the company and this is what I was told:
"Thank you for contacting our office. Our chip repairs are done to preserve the structural integrity of the glass and not for cosmetic purposes. If the repair fails i.e. starts to crack out further or is not visibly pleasing; S*****te offers a money back guarantee where we will credit the cost of the repair toward the replacement of a new windshield; however your deductible (if you have one) or out of pocket cost would apply. If you are interested in a quote, please feel free to contact us at------:.
Anyone who has had a chip fixed, can you still see and feel the chip?

Doc

Some I have had trouble finding after they did it, some it did not look like they had done anything. One really fooled me by disappearing initially and then appearing a year later. I thought it was a new chip.

Okay...I can live with the looks of it, but is it okay if you still feel the roughness of the chip?

A second repair guy - who did not fix the first chip - told me that as long as the inside was glued in the first repair, that roughness outside was acceptable and doing it again would not help. On the other hand if you do not repair a crack quickly, dirt will creep inside and make it much more difficult to fix.

The repair guy had to do it three times "Because of the Rain-X".

That's interesting. I had never heard that RainX had a negative impact on windshield repair. I'll have to google that. Might make me rethink RainX.

Windshield Repair

I just had mine repaired by Safe Lite, He told me prior to the repair that it won't be completely invisible. After the repair there was a slight blemish but the glass was completely smooth. He also used a cork with some polishing compound to smooth it. It was about the size of a dime before the repair now it looks like a tiny squashed bug. It is also in the middle of the windshield not in my field of vision .After a trip with bugs on the windshield it's hard to find.

Yep - got the same disclaimer concerning being able to see or feel the chip. But, I have had several chips fixed in the course of the last 400,000 miles. Haven't been able to see or feel any after the repair. May just be lucky.

From what I was told it depends on the type of chip or crack how invisible it is.

Small chip in the windshield, Safelite repaired, still visible, same "not cosmetic, structural comment" Had another glass repair company look at it, he was not impressed with the results but could not redo. My repair is smooth, 2nd tech said a rough repair is hard on wiper blades.
My Insurance will replace the windshield since I'm not satisfied but the star is in low center and not in field of view. I'm Concerned about leaks after R&R windshield. 2nd tech also recommended using OEM windshield, better quality glass.
FWIW I think windshield was shot by BB gun coming thru Richmond...
