Slide Problem And A Question

The slide stopped working on our 2014 Chateau 33SW this morning while breaking camp. It stopped 8” out, wouldn’t go in or out. A repair crew was able to get it closed but we had no power to the coach for 15-20 minutes then the power came on for no apparent reason. Repairmen say there’s a short in the system.

Before we called for service we looked to see if we could find any problems. While looking to see if anything obvious was causing the problem we found a lot of stuff the previous owners had left behind that found their way into non-storage areas.

One item we found is what looks like a large black canvas bag with Velcro closures behind the screwed-in panel under the sink. The bag-like item seems to be stuck under the slide. Does anyone have any idea what this could be, does it belong there or not?

We do not have a Chateau..but, I would say, for sure...there should be NOTHING in or under the slide which would impede the function.
If the bag is medium size, not too large, it could be the Thor bag which contains all the information regarding your coach. Our bag is zippered.

Keep us posted on what you find !

The bag may be the "enclosure" for the drain pipe. You'll have to wait for other owners of your model to post but I recall some discussion here about that.

It does look like that model has had some slide issues in the past:

Ron & Kay - It’s not the info bag, that was in an overhead cabinet. The “bag” we found is several times larger.

We’ve had two TT’s with slides, and there was nothing like this.

JamieGeek – I saw that thread earlier today. Wish I had known that. We had searched the web for reviews or comments before buying but never saw that one.

Thanks for the replies.

I was told by a Thor tech that that is made to protect wiring that moves back and forth with the slide out. It is both an insulation and a protector.

Our slide was repaired yesterday (5/10/16). Three of the 5 wires to the front motor had been rubbing against the slide and tore out of the motor. Also the override button on the slide controller was broken off. When the tech tested the slide with the new parts he saw that the slide wasn’t moving straight. The front roller wasn’t carrying any weight and needed to be adjusted too.

We now have a properly working slide and I got short course on the proper way to use it. The tech, Ash, is the resident Schwintek expert at Spartanburg CW.

As mrsempeel said the bag under the sink is to protect and insulate the hoses. One of the techs fixed that and took care of several other items that were not done during the pre-delivery inspection.

Kathy and I left CW yesterday satisfied with what was done.

we also are having issues with the canvas bag under the sink....the hoses...the wires and the furnace ducts--HOW is that bag to be straightened out and wrapped and velcroed around things?? it is a wadded mess---it has sliced the furnace foil duct- we were thinking the bag is more of a hindrance than a help BUT we do not really know the proper way to fold it over and under things!? anyone have a picture????

the 'bag' is designed to contain the pipes and wiring that extends under your cabinets/sink area and down into the lower wet/sewer bay area - the velcro is to provide the ability to 'close' the bag around these items to minimize air/pest infiltration when the slide is OUT. When you look under your slide, you'll see this open area that allows room for these items to stay in place while the slide is extended. The bag allows this opening in the bottom of the slide to have some form of enclosure from the weather/pests.
It also allows for you to have the ability to bring in a coax tv/satellite cable, extension cord, etc., if needed...

Bill,
"I got short course on the proper way to use it." I am new to this model, would you like to share the tips he gave you? I am having some creaking at the backside (aft) of the slide when closed and driving.

Our model has a full length slide on the street side. The tech told us to be sure the coach is level and to be connected to shore power or have the generator running. When extending the slide, put it out until it stops, retract 1-2 seconds, fully extend again until the motors stop. Reverse the procedure when retracting the slide. These steps keep the motors in sync. Also, if we are at one place for an extended time span we should run the slide in and out periodically to reset it because the slide is heavy and is used a lot. (The slide contains the dinette, galley, residential frig and wardrobe.) When we bring it in we check levelness then extend it again.

We’ve had no problems with the slide since it was repaired and we’ve been following the techs advice.

In our coach the “bag” is basically a container to control wiring when the slide is being moved. The bottom of the slide is fully enclosed.

Hope this helps.
