Hi we just had a blow out last September on the road
We had a spare but there was no way my husband could change it
On the side of a highway???? NO!
And who has room for a hydraulic jack
Get good road side
It is worth it

I bought a dial hitch and made a tire mount for my chateau and the levelers can pick it off the ground

I believe all Fords come with Road side assistance. I have a 2019 Axis and it comes with 3yr Ford roadside assistance. I purchased a rim, tire and hitch mount holder so we're GTG.

Take a look at these.
I have them on all my vehicles except the 24.1
It'll get one as soon as I get all the spare tire stuff together.

Spare Tire for RV

Back in the day the older ones came with it or it was an option. My 2012 had the spare and it mounted up under the rear with the cable lowering system like the pickups. However it is a cost thing now for them, You are correct it is an omission thing if you don’t know and they don’t volunteer any information you don’t ask about. I have changed a spare on the side of the road, I bought a large enough hydraulic jack rated for the Unit. Then I carried blocks of wood also that come in handy depending where you change it. For my Class A, I have road side assistance and carry a tire with me. It is very expensive even with road side programs if you don’t carry a tire. They charge you full retail. Lesson learned for me.. If you decide to do yourself be safe, these units are heavy are very heavy and you need to be out of harms way with traffic and such. If you purchase a complete wheel and tire, like one of the members said, don’t buy it from a dealer. Purchase a roadside assistance program and it will include the changing of the tire if you have one, if you don’t most will then charge you extra. Like anything else read the fine print and ask the questions before you buy. Happy New Year and safe travels.

Look at my post #13 in this thread. The factory supplied jack is probably under the floor mat on the passenger side.

I use a steel cable thru the safety loop and a lock I had laying around. I do have a few of those hitch locks I really like them.

Thank you. Easy to miss stuff as these threads grow. They probably told me where the jack was on PDI but you can never remember everything.

The spare is kinda one of those things you don’t consider when opting for a motor coach... go figure. I know it didn’t cross our minds when we were looking at both the C’s and A’s. After our purchase and while reading on the forum we were introduced to the fact of no spare, and where to put it? Probably the reason it doesn’t have one. For most short trips we didn’t consider it much but once we started trips over 500 miles it seemed a necessity. After reading some of the roadside assistance disasters, 3 hrs to arrive, wrong size tire, 7 more hours till the right tire arrived...that’s unacceptable. A can’t imagine being stuck on the side of a highway for 10 hrs. So even of it’s expense we opted for the spare, rim and carrier. There’s room under our coach between the frame but at 140lbs it would be tough to muscle up and down and without inventing a contraption to winch it up and down we got the Roadmaster carrier.

Lots of folks carry an unmounted tire with them...this makes sense if you have room. Locally, I do not carry a spare. When we head out this year to tame the West, I will carry an unmounted tire on the trailer. Another reason I chose to trailer the car versus tow...it gives me room to carry a tire, ladder under the car, portable generator for remote boondocking, etc. Any local tire shop can mount the tire to my existing rim.

I really like the Roadmaster 195225. It facilitates carrying even a 22.5 inch spare without losing the ability to tow. I even have one from a previous coach. It’s expensive ($500+) but it’s a fine bit of robust kit that’ll outlast several coaches. Alas it only has a 2 inch drop and my current toad needs at least 4. I may give it a try one of these days but my tow bar/hitch difference is about 6 inches. My friend says I should use a lift kit on the Jeep!

My DRV came with a full sized spare on an alloy rim, just like the other 4 wheels. I just use the hydraulic Rams to lift the rig off the ground to change my tire.

I'm doing this from memory so I might have a couple of things too fogged to fit.

I'm pretty sure a FIFTIES cameo pickup was the first truck to come with a spare and a rear bumper from the factory. All others were dealer items.
Late model Studebaker trucks came with a spare on a base model as a selling point.
Through at least 1989 no American made truck came with a factory spare or a rear bumper in the base price. Trucks also didn't require a 'monroni', the federal window sticker.
Montero, one of the first little suv type vehicles upset the cart a bit and kinda started the'whats a Truck?' thing.

Jeeps didn't come with spares either.

I THINK a federal mandate in the early 90's changed that.
Or manufacturers just caved in and included a spare.

I'll go out on a limb and say imports of the era also did not come with spares.

So, a truck or rv with an included spare is a recent thing, not a historic right.

You ordered base model, stripped trucks both times?
No accessories, no packages?

Every vehicle I have ever owned from a '60 Rambler to my 2016 Sonic came with a spare. And one of those was a '76 Datsun pickup and another was a '74 Datsun B210.
