Anyone upgrade from a 13500 to a15000 BTU

This weekend in Florida was very hot and the 2016 Freedom Elite 28H had a hard time keeping cool. I read a lot of the posts about doing some simple insulation of the ceiling. I will do as much as i can on the insulating. Has anybody upgraded their A.C. from a 13500 BTU to a 15000 BTU? I run 30 amps. What were the results? I know it may take a few more amps to run. Do you think it was worth It? I do not need the heat pump in the 15000 BTU.

I am not a mechanical minded person. So I am not looking to dive to deep into tearing things apart to make improvements.

Thanks for any input.

Before doing that you may want to catch up on this thread:

Besides that upgrade wouldn't be as dramatic as you'd think it is only a 10% larger unit.

I did read that one. I will see what I can do. Maybe I will have my son help me out. He is pretty good with mechanical stuff.

Thanks for your response.

My 13500 Dometic heat pump failed and was replaced under warranty, I paid the difference for the 15000 btu unit. Some improvement but to me not enough to justify replacing the unit outright.

I have 15000 BTU. My opinion is you will not feel a difference unless you are parked in FULL SHADE....

Thanks. That is what I needed to know. It looks like there is only so much you can do. I have read all the other posts on A.C.

I am extremely “mechanical” in a broader sense, and can do a rough estimate. As long as your A/C is working correctly, I would personally not expect inside temperature to drop more than about 2 F, maybe 3 F at most (even though I feel that’s unlikely). Assuming everything else is the same, I would base my decision on lowering temperature inside motorhome by 2 F more or less. I would not spend the money for that small an improvement, and would try my best to reduce loads on A/C first.

If looking to lower temperature a lot, like say 10F, you need other “real” options to increase cooling capacity.
