Streaky windshield

We have an older MH that we bought used. The roof now has been recoated to minimize those white chalky streaks coming down all over. Last year I put Rain-X on but evidently didn't get the windshield quite clean enough. Rain-X makes X-treme Clean which is supposed to remove Rain-X and everything else. With my sunglasses on, at certain angles, I can still see traces of those streaks. Is it likely that long past exposure to that chalky stuff etched the windshield slightly? Or do I just need to keep working at getting it really, really clean? Any suggestions? I'd like to get it as good as I can before doing a fresh coat of Rain-X. Other products better?

Lacquer thinner works well as does acetone. It also removes most paint, softens fingernails and dissolves nitrite gloves careful.

Use X-Treme Clean again. Follow with cleaning with Invisible Glass using a new micro fiber cloth, no paper towels. Polish the windshield with 0000 steel wool. Apply two coats of Rain-X.

Thanks to all for the clean window help. I would never have thought of using steel wool on a window by myself. Windshield is looking good now. All you guys are such a wonderful resource.
Warm regards,
